Snorkl.tv AS3 Code Challenge: Ferris Wheel Fun

Here it is the first Snorkl.tv AS3 Code Challenge!!! All participants will be eligible to win a Really Green Club GreenSock Membership plus bragging rights.

The basic goal is to keep the bucket level while the arm spins. The rules are simple. Take a look inside.

How to Enter:

  1. Download my starter fla ferrisWheelChallenge_start.fla CS4
  2. Add some code to frame 1 that makes the bucket stay level
  3. Save the fla as CS5 or lower AND RENAME TO INCLUDE YOUR NAME ex:ferrisWheel_mike_bonehammer
  4. Email the file back to me with
    SUBJECT: CHALLENGE
    TO ADDRESS: MY_FIRST_NAME @ snorkl.tv (my first name is Carl BTW)

Rules:

  1. Must be a code-driven solution. No frame tweens
  2. No Bone tool or armatures
  3. No third-party code libraries. (Fisix, APE, Box2D, etc)
  4. Entries must be received by 11:59PM EST June 8

Winner Info

  • Winners will be chosen randomly
  • I MAY give an award for “most practical” solution
  • Winners will be announced June 13th
  • Winners will win a Really Green Club GreenSock Membership

      lol. you should have seen how distracted this made me last night when I was trying to figure it out. There are probably a dozen ways to approach this. It is amazing though how simple the solution can be.

      I thinked of 4 ways to do this, 3 of them can be done in single line, 3 of them don’t requer trigonometry and just for the fun I did it with single line trigonometry equesion :) I’ll post the last one here (it is really interesting!) after the contest :)
